NOTM: Ombre Nails

So, here's the thing. I've been getting bored painting my nails just one color lately, so I did some experimenting and here's my latest.

Ombre nails have been a pretty hot trend this year and its surprisingly easy!

All you need are: a makeup sponge and 2 or more nail colors of your choice. Choose pretty opaque formulas so that the colors will show up more and not just sink into the sponge.

The steps are really easy.

Apply a base coat and then the lighter color all over the nail. In this case, I painted pink all over.

Then swipe both colors on your makeup sponge. You may have to goop it on because the sponge will absorb the polish pretty quickly.

Dab this on your nail until its blended. The darker color will show up more on the nail and the lighter one helps to blend it out. Reapply the color to the sponge after one or 2 nails.

It will look pretty rough after you've used the sponge and polish will be all over your finger but simply clean around the cuticles with a Q-tip and nail polish remover and add a top coat for shine.

And that's it!

For this look, I used Sally Hansen Insta-Dry nail polishes in Brisk Blue and Presto Pink. They are sold in drugstores for less than $4.

You can use any combination of colors for this look. Applying 3 colors gives an even smoother gradient if you choose colors in the same family. If you have longer nails, you can get away with even more shades. I think this look would also look nice reversed - with the blue at the tips.

I'm thinking of using red, green and gold next for a super festive holiday look.

Thanks so much for reading!

Have you tried the Ombre nail trend?
