Cheap Thrills: Wet n Wild MegaLast Lipsticks (Review + Swatch)

So it is no secret here that I am a big fan of Wet n Wild MegaLast lipsticks, so I think a review is due.
I think Wet n Wild has done a great job with these matte, pigment-rich lipsticks!

The formulation is smooth and dries to a flattering matte, velvet finish. Some may find it a bit dry but I don't mind this because I prefer long-wear over moisture as the latter can be added with a lip balm before application and a gloss after.

Lasting power is amazing, especially with the deeper shades as it leaves a stain on the lips many hours after application. I've had some of these on my lips the entire day through eating, drinking, 'etc' without it budging.

According to the website, the shade selection is impressive at about 26 colors in their permanent line, although I have never seen more than about 10 displayed in the drugstore at one time. Below, I have swatched 7 of these.

From left to right:

Dollhouse Pink: A very light, blue-based pink. On dark skin this can look a bit chalky. Sheering it it out and applying a gloss on top will make it more wearable for someone of my skin tone or darker.

Smokin Hot Pink: A warm, peachy pink.

Purty Persimmon: A bright orange with a hint of a red undertone.

Red Velvet: Red with an orange undertone

Cherry Picking: Deep red with pinky undertone

Mocha-Licious: A brownish-nude.

Sugar Plum Fairy: A deep burgundy-plum.

Packaging leaves a bit to be desired though. The lipstick does not retract all the way into the tube so reapplying the cover ultimately ends up with smears of lipstick all over the plastic. This is a really simple fix that can be done to basically all of Wet n Wild's lipsticks and balms and I don't know why this hasn't been addressed. Simple fix!

Bottomline: Overall, I am definitely a fan of these lipsticks. Longevity and color selection are great and the price is greater. At $1.99 each in drugstores, you really can't go too far wrong with these. The colors are rich and highly pigmented. I can't pick a favorite! The small flaw in the packaging is a bit of a downer and I will deduct 1/2 a point off because of this.

I give these MegaLast lipsticks a rating of 4.5 out of 5

What do you think of these wallet-friendly lipsticks?

  3. Yet another line of drugstore lipsticks I've got to try out! That Hot Pink color looks a bit daring, but at just two bucks, I'd be willing to try it on for size! x

    1. Smokin Hot Pink is a beautiful color and very wearable in my opinion without being too flashy.....but then again, I gravitate towards bright lipsticks :-)

    1. Hi Robyn! Thanks so much for reading and following! I think most, if not all, of these colors would be suitable for pale girls too, but it just depends on how bold you want to be. Smokin Hot Pink (despite the name) is not too bold but I think will be very pretty as will Red Velvet and Dollhouse pink. :-)

    1. HI Tara! I am not really sure of stores you can find them in the UK but they're certainly online. They sell in about every drugstore in the States, so that would be the first place I'd check in the UK. Sorry I couldn't be more specific. :-)
