Maybelline Illegal Length Mascara: A review

I was not a fan of Maybelline mascaras until recently and I gotta say, I'm quite impressed with the stuff they've been putting out lately. Today's post is about a pretty no-nonsense lengthening mascara called Illegal Length Fiber Extensions Mascara.

The manufacturers claim that this mascara adds 4mm of fiber extensions that give the lashes a more dramatic look while separating and sealing in the fibers. I have not measured my lashes before and after application to verify the accuracy of the 4mm claim, but I do notice significant lengthening after just one coat.

The formula is creamy and easy to work with and is not too wet or dry but I would say leans more on marginally wet consistency. I have not experienced any clumping, flaking or smudging and removal is easy with a regular makeup remover or soap and water.

 Something that I would be wary of with fiber extensions is the possibility of the little tips breaking off during the day but thankfully, this is not the case with Illegal Length. Longevity is great and I have no complaints about that factor whatsoever.

I don't curl my lashes, so I cannot comment on the strength of hold it would have after using a lash curler.

 The brush is made of synthetic fibers that spiral around the wand and grasp on to the lashes.

This mascara does not provide significant thickening but it does a great job at separating and lengthening the lashes. I have owned this tube for about 7-8 weeks and have had no problem with it drying out in the bottle quickly.

Illegal Length retails for about $8.99 in drugstores and the color shown here is in Blackest Black.

Bottomline: I like this mascara a lot. It is easy to work with and lengthens the lashes well and I would definitely recommend it. I am not totally wowed by it to call it a dramatic or one-of-a-kind transformation wonder but I consider this a great, no fuss everyday mascara.

For its lengthening, longevity and affordability, I rate Illegal Length 4 out of 5.
