NOTM: Half Moon Manicure - OPI (Mariah Carey) A butterfly Moment + (Nicole) Show You Care

Well hello beautiful people! I have a super easy half moon manicure for you today. I used a beautiful peachy-pink shade from Mariah Carey's line with OPI called A Butterfly Moment as well as a deep plum color from Nicole by OPI called Show You Care.

Here's a 'Wham-Bam-Thank-You-Mam' review of the polishes. A Butterfly Moment is a neutral soft pink with a peachy undertone and a frost finish. From the outside of the bottle, I was expecting a cream finish (which I would have preferred) but its more frosty. Show You Care is a really dark plum with a creamy consistency.

Now for the 'Half-Moon' steps.

If you have a steady hand you can paint the half moons near the nail cuticle free-hand. If you are like me, you will just need some round stickers to act as a guide for the shape. I used binder reinforcers that you can find at any stationery store. I got mine from the office section at Target.

Now, I prefer to paint dark on top of light polish so I painted all my nails with A Butterfly Moment first and let that dry for about 15 minutes.

For the ring finger, since I wanted this one to be the opposite of all the others, I placed the edge of the reinforcer sticker to line up with where my natural half-moon would be and then painted in Show You care from the sticker to the tip of my nail.

For the other fingers where the dark color is at the bottom of the nail, I lined the inner circle of the sticker to where my natural half moon would be and painted from the cuticle to the inner edge of the circle.

To match the width of your nail, you may have to tear the sticker and spread it over the nail surface like what I did in the photo above.

When the dark color has dried, carefully remove the stickers and apply a top coat to the entire nail. And Voila! You're done!

You can do this with any combination of colors. Show You Care and A Butterfly Moment were both purchased at Ulta for $8.50 and $9.00 respectively.

What's your favorite nail trend?

  1. Love it! This technique is something I would have never thought of, but it looks so professional. I'm also loving that combination of colors together, and now I just know I'd get a ton of wear out of the Nicole by OPI shade. x

    1. Thank you! It was easy! Waiting for the polish to dry before applying the stickers was the longest part. Otherwise, easy-peasy! :-)
