I have been so excited for the release of Mariah Carey's collection with OPI from the moment I got word of it.
FYI I'm kind of a Mariah fanatic! Don't hold it against me.
Anyway, there are about 9 shades in this collection and I want to focus on half of it first because it is so...... I am so...... She is so..... Ahhh! Its amazing. Let's just leave it at that.
These 4 shades are kinda revolutionary for OPI because it is the first set of polishes using 'Liquid Sand Technology'. Each polish applies regularly but dries to a super glittery, textured finish. It really does feel like sand or kind of like an emory board. It took me a minute to get used to the grittiness but it adds a great deal of visual interest on top of all the sparkle and glitter! It reminds me a bit of the velvet or Ciaté Caviar nail trends that were so popular last year.
In typical Christal fashion, I could't make up my mind to choose which shades I wanted so I got the mini kit which features all the polishes with the Liquid Sand lacquer.
All the colors dry quickly to the same matte, textured finish but vary in the type of glitter particles they contain.
Get Your Number (pinky finger) is a bright blue with pretty uniform small silver sparkles.
Can't Let Go (middle finger) is a blue-toned purple with silver and purple tiny glitter and large purple hexagonal chunks.
The Impossible (ring finger) is a bright reddish-fuschia with tiny red and silver glitter, large hexagonal chunks and star-shaped flakes!!!!
Stay the Night (index finger) is a matte black base with fine, red glitter.
After 2 coats, each shade is opaque, but I applied 3 coats in the swatches above just for fun. (Don't judge!)
No top coat is used to preserve the super gritty, textured effect.
Just in case you were wondering, removing these textured polishes is just about as difficult as it looks. As with any glittery or chunky nail polish, these require a little bit of effort to get them off but I'm sure you don't mind because its so pretty while its on. Right?
I purchased this collection from Ulta and the display is shown above. The box of minis retails for $12.50 and each full-sized bottle is now $9. I did not see any minis for the regular shades from this collection though. :-(
I will soon post swatches of some of those soon.
Thanks for reading!
What's your favorite shade from this collection?

So tempted by the black with little bits of pink, so so pretty! xx
ReplyDeleteI think that one may be my favorite too! Such a tough choice! :-)
DeleteThese look really interesting - the finish is really unique! I don't know if I'm really sold on the sand texture, but I like that it's something new in the nail polish world. Plus I'm a fellow Mariah fanatic - and I don't care what people say or think about that :p I saw her when she came to Sydney last week and it seriously was like a dream come true!
ReplyDeleteYou saw her!! I'm so jealous! I'd probably faint! haha :-)
DeleteI really like the look of that blue shade on the end! I'd heard about this collection a few weeks ago, and I'm happy to see such beautiful swatches. I would dread having to remove the polish, for sure, but they're so pretty, I'm sure it would be worth it! x
ReplyDeleteYes. Removing it is a beast but it isn't that much different from a regular glitter nail polish. To save myself the heartache of removing on 10 nails, I might end up using these as accent polishes on the ring finger with regular polish on the rest. But it is fun to look at them all sparkling like that. Haha
DeleteWow! I heard about these, so cool! Definitely on my wish list! Nice pics/review!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! They're super fun :-)
